olympus roamer dpc i 10x21 binoculars - a good pair will last for a long time

So you've been bitten by the astronomy bug and want to get started with your very own telescope, but you're confused by the vast number of possible purchases? Binoculars are used for a lot of things.

Binoculars are portable, handy, lightweight and easy to carry. Digital binoculars are a cheap alternative, and can be picked up for considerably less money, and usually have a built-in camera. Any larger than about 9 or 10, and the natural shake of the human hand will be magnified to such an extent that the image becomes difficult to see, and a tripod will be required.

Another feature to consider are the lens caps. Water-shedding lens protectors have a special coating that allows water droplets to bounce off the surface, which helps reduce repeated cleaning of lens. Do keep in mind that a larger objective diameter will generally increase the size and weight of the binoculars.

If you have powerful lenses, the magnification is good, but the amount of captured light decreases significantly. Get a good pair and enjoy!
