Most night-vision binoculars are used by security personnel. The lens nearest whatever is under scrutiny provides an image, which can then be enlarged by the lens nearest the viewers eye by moving it closer or further away from the objective lens.
Many pairs of binocualrs are not suitable for low-light conditions. There are many good choice in terms of value for the money, and have the added benefit of being ergonomically designed. Compact binoculars are generally guarded with rubber padding, and they come with a case and hanging strip.
Another feature to consider are the lens caps. In live theaters and concerts, audience members sitting in the back rows away from the stage use binoculars to get a better view of the stage. The area of land or sky that is presented to your eyes by using binoculars is referred to as the field of view.
Phase correction is a coating on the lenses that increases the sharpness, contrast and color saturation. If you are still in your twenties you can probably use all of that 7mm exit pupil above as your pupils will dilate to about that size in very dark conditions, however as you get older your pupil does not dilate more than about 4 to 5 mm so large exit pupils are wasted. When you consider the cost of a single hunting trip, quality three to five hundred dollar binoculars are a great investment.
You will also need to buy an atlas of the sky suited for astronomy, and a guide. And don't forget about small children and their fascination with dropping electronic equipment in toilets.
